Sight-Read with the Chord Prompter

Comping through an unfamiliar song is easier when you can see what is coming. The Chord Prompter works like a teleprompter for chords: the current chord sits large in the middle, and the next ones are already visible on the right.

Step by step

  • Turn on Settings → Practice → Chord Prompter once. The  prompter icon appears on the chord bar.
  • Open a song you don’t know yet and click the prompter icon.
  • Slow the song to about 70% with the BPM ▼ arrow (see Change the tempo).
  • Mute the piano track in the  Tracks panel, so the chords come from you.
  • Press Space and comp along. Keep your eyes on the right of the prompter to prepare the next chord while you still hold the current one.
  • When you get through the song without stopping, raise the tempo and play it again.

Want the chords on paper too? Print a bar-by-bar chart with Chord Transcription to PDF and read from it away from the screen.
