The installer version of Orfeo keeps itself up to date; the portable version is updated by hand, and the Microsoft Store version is updated by the Store. This page explains all three, and where to see which version you’re running.
Check your version
Your version number is shown at the bottom of Setup, for example Orfeo · v1.5.3, and at the bottom of the Settings window’s group list, next to Check for updates.
Installer version: automatic
To check straight away, click Check for updates. It shows Orfeo is up to date when there’s nothing new. Your settings, library and saved files are never touched by an update.
Portable version: manual
The portable version never updates itself. At the bottom of the left panel, its Check for updates button opens the download page, orfeo.cc/download, in your browser instead.
Microsoft Store version: through the Store
If you installed Orfeo from the Microsoft Store, the Store keeps it up to date, the same way as your other Store apps. This version never downloads updates itself, and Check for updates opens Orfeo’s page in the Store instead. A new version reaches the Store a little after it is published on GitHub, once Microsoft has checked it.
If the check fails
An Update check failed message usually means you’re offline or the release page couldn’t be reached. It clears on its own; try again later, or download the new installer from the release page and run it over your current installation. Your data is kept.
