Uninstalling Orfeo

Uninstalling Orfeo lets you decide what happens to your data, and your library folder is never touched whatever you choose. This page covers the installer version, the portable version and one special case for early installs.

Installer version

  • Close Orfeo.
  • Open Settings → Apps → Installed apps in Windows (on Windows 10: Settings → Apps → Apps & features).
  • Find Orfeo, click … (or the entry itself) and choose Uninstall. No admin prompt appears, because Orfeo is installed for your account only.
  • Choose what happens to your Orfeo data (see below).

What happens to your data

Your answer

Result

Yes

Deletes all Orfeo data: preferences, the library folder link, downloaded soundfonts, the demo files, and any edited MIDI files that were saved without a library folder set.

No

Keeps your edited MIDI files by moving them to an Orfeo Edited Files folder on your desktop, and deletes the rest.

Cancel

Keeps everything and deletes nothing.

Your library folder, and every Orfeo version folder inside it, stays exactly where it is with any of these answers. If a file is locked, for example by an antivirus scan, the uninstaller tells you which folder it couldn’t remove.

Portable version

Delete Orfeo-<version>-portable.exe and the Orfeo-Data folder next to it. The portable version writes nothing anywhere else.

Old installs in Program Files

One early release (1.0.1) installed Orfeo for all users in C:\Program Files\Orfeo. If you still have that install, uninstall it once through Windows settings before installing a newer version. Newer versions install per user and handle everything automatically.
