Your MIDI Library

The Library in the left panel lists every MIDI file in a folder you choose, with search, favourites and subfolders. It’s the quickest way to open songs, and it keeps track of the versions you save.

Set your library folder

  • Open the  Library tab in the left panel.
  • Click Set your MIDI folder (it blinks until a folder is set), or the  Change library folder icon to pick a different one later.
  • Choose the folder that holds your MIDI files. Orfeo lists everything in it, including subfolders, and remembers the folder next time.

Orfeo only reads your library folder. It never deletes or changes your files, apart from actions you choose yourself, such as renaming a folder.

Find songs

Do this

Search

Type in the search box. Matching is forgiving, so a few letters or a slightly misspelled name still find the song.

Mark a favourite

Click the  star on a song’s row. Star or unstar a whole folder from its header.

Show favourites only

Switch the filter at the top from All to the star.

Open a song

Click its row.

How the list is organised

  • The song that’s open is pinned in its own bar at the top, and is also highlighted in orange in its folder.
  • Folders come first, in a Folders section you can collapse. Click a folder to open or close it; its header stays in view while you scroll through its songs.
  • The Orfeo and Demo folders are always at the top. Orfeo holds the versions you save, Demo the three included songs.
  • Files in the library root follow below the folders.
  • A small amber dot next to a song means its bar lines and metronome miss the music’s beat. It appears when Tempo warnings is on; open the song and fix it with Tap Tempo.

Keep the list up to date

After every save, the Library refreshes by itself, opens the Orfeo folder and highlights the new version. If you add or remove files in Windows Explorer, click  Refresh library. The refresh icon blinks when Orfeo knows the list is out of date.

Add files

Drag MIDI files from Windows Explorer onto the Library list. Files from outside the library folder are copied into it; the originals stay where they are, and a file with the same name is never overwritten. Dropping a file on the main window does the same and opens it too.

To move, hide or group files, see Organising files.

 Tip

Keep your library folder on a drive you back up. It holds your music and every version you’ve saved, so one backup covers all of it.
