The metronome clicks along with the beat while a song plays. Unlike a simple click track, it follows every tempo change written into the song, so it stays in time through slowdowns and speed-ups.
Turn the metronome on
Click the metronome icon on the right of the top bar. It lights up when it’s on.
Press Space to play. The first beat of every bar gets a stronger click.
Click the icon again to turn it off. You can switch it during playback.
Click volume
Right-click the metronome icon.
Drag the slider to make the clicks quieter or louder, from 0% (silent) to 150%, in steps of 5%. The level shows next to Volume.
Reset to 100% goes back to the normal level.
Orfeo remembers the level between sessions. It applies to every click, also while you listen back in Tap Tempo.
Count-in
Hear one to four bars of clicks before the music starts, so you come in on time. Right-click the metronome, switch Count-in to ON and pick the number of bars; a small number on the icon shows it’s on. See Count-in.
Always in time
It follows the song’s own tempo map, including every ritardando or accelerando written into the file.
It starts in step wherever you start playback, also in the middle of a bar or a loop.
It speeds up and slows down with your tempo setting.
The beats per bar come from the song’s time signature, shown in the top bar.
If a song’s own tempo is wrong, fix it with Tap Tempo. The metronome then follows your corrected beat.
Tip
Practising a part on its own? Mute every track with the mixer’s Mute all and keep just the metronome. The notes still fall on the roll, and the click keeps you honest.
