Practise the Piano Part of a Band Arrangement

Band and orchestral files are busy: guitars, strings and horns can drown out the part you are trying to learn. With Focus Mode and the mute buttons you can turn the arrangement into a backing band and play the piano part on top.

Step by step

  • Open the song and the  Tracks panel.
  • Click the Focus button at the top of the panel. It changes to Piano, Bass & Drums Only and everything else is muted. See Focus Mode.
  • Click M on the piano track to mute it as well. Its notes keep falling on the roll, so you can still read them; the keys no longer light for a muted track.
  • Press Space and play the piano part yourself, with bass and drums as your band.

Clean up the piano roll

Muted tracks still fall on the roll. To see only the piano, use  Hide all in the  Tracks panel, then click the eye  on the piano track to bring it back.

 Tip

Feeling lost without a guide? Unmute the piano for one pass, listen, then mute it again. Or bring back a single instrument, such as the strings, with its own M button.
