File Info and Edit History

File info shows the key details of any song in your library, lets you correct its artist and title, and lists every version you’ve saved with a history of what changed. That history is stored inside the MIDI file itself, so it goes wherever the file goes.

Open File info

Right-click a song in the Library and choose File info. It opens as a floating window; Esc closes it.

Correct the artist and title

  • Double-click the Artist or Song field and type. Press Enter to keep the change or Esc to cancel it.
  • If artist and song are the wrong way round, click the  Swap Artist and Song button.
  • Click Save changes. This renames the file on disk.

A song title is required, and Orfeo won’t overwrite another file with the same name.

Saved versions

The window lists the Original and each _ORFEO_vN version you’ve saved from it, with the date and time. Click a version to see its details and history. This only changes what the window shows; it doesn’t open the file. To see a version on disk, click Open in Explorer.

Edit history

Every save writes a short entry into the new version describing what changed, for example “merged 2 tracks into 1, changed color of 1 track”. Saves from the  Playback Editor,  Note Editor and  Console Mixer all add entries, as do tempo and key saves.

  • The history is stored inside the MIDI file, not in Orfeo’s settings.
  • It survives copying the file to another PC, reinstalling Orfeo or switching between the installer and portable versions.
  • Other MIDI programs ignore it, so the file plays normally everywhere.

 Tip

Name downloaded files “Artist – Song” and File info reads both fields correctly. If a download arrives as “Song – Artist”, one click on the swap button fixes it.
