Change Key

Changing the key moves the whole song up or down in semitones, so you can play it in a key that suits your hands or sing it in a comfortable range. The change is instant, keeps the tempo, and the chord names follow along.

Transpose a song

  • Open a song. The KEY readout in the top bar shows its key, read from the file or worked out from the notes.
  • Click ▲ to move the song up a semitone, or ▼ to move it down. You can go up to 12 semitones, a full octave, in either direction.
  • The KEY readout shows the new key, and the TRANSPOSE label shows how far you’ve moved.
  • Click the reset button to go back to the original key.

What changes with the key

  • The sound, the falling notes and the lit keys all move together.
  • The chord names above the keyboard and in the Chord Prompter follow the new key.
  • Tempo and loop settings stay as they are. You can change the key during playback.

Keep the new key

A key change lasts for the session. To make it part of the file, turn on Save Tempo & Key changes in the  MIDI Playback Editor and save. The new version then always opens in your key, and the original file stays untouched.

 Tip

Struggling with lots of black keys? Try moving a piece into C or G major to learn the shape of the music first, then go back to the original key.
