Orfeo is free and open source under the GPL-3.0 licence: no account, no ads, no subscription and no tracking. The app itself collects nothing.

The installer and the portable version are the same app with exactly the same features. Pick the installer for everyday use, or the portable version for a USB stick or a PC where you can’t install software.

Every file on this page comes from Orfeo’s official GitHub releases, and the source code is public at github.com/Squarebow/Orfeo.

More detail in Download and Install and Where your data lives.

  • Windows 10 or Windows 11, 64-bit
  • Quad-core processor and 8 GB of RAM recommended for busy, multi-instrument songs; simple piano pieces run on almost any PC
  • Any built-in graphics from the last ten years, with up-to-date drivers
  • Under 500 MB of disk space
  • No internet needed to play and practise; a USB or MIDI keyboard is optional

Full details: System Requirements. There are no official macOS or Linux versions.

The first time you run Orfeo, Windows SmartScreen may show a blue warning. Orfeo isn’t code-signed yet, so Windows doesn’t recognise the publisher. It doesn’t mean the file is harmful.

  1. Click More info.
  2. Check that the app name is the Orfeo file you downloaded.
  3. Click Run anyway. Windows asks only once per file.

Check your download

Only download Orfeo from this page or its official GitHub releases. To check a file, compare its SHA-256 checksum (under each download button) with the one Windows gives you: in PowerShell, run Get-FileHash .\Orfeo-Setup-x.y.z.exe.

Every version, with its release notes and files, is on GitHub Releases. The full history of changes is in the changelog.
