Orfeo fits everything on one screen: a top bar for playback, the falling-note piano roll in the middle, the keyboard below it and two side panels. This page is a tour of every area, so you know where to look before you dive into the individual features.

1. Top bar
The top bar controls the song as a whole. Hover over anything in it for a short explanation.
Area | Controls |
Left | The Orfeo logo (click to close the file and reset everything), the folder icon to open a file, the tempo with its BPM arrows and reset, the red TAP pad when Tap Tempo is on (with a pulsing amber light under it when a tempo warning flags the song), and the key with transpose arrows and reset. |
Centre | The file name, the playback buttons (start, back 5 seconds, play/pause, forward 5 seconds, end, loop), the scrub bar and, when turned on, the loop strip. |
Right | The master volume knob, the bar counter, the time signature, the metronome switch (right-click it for the click volume and Count-in; a small number on it shows the count-in bars) and the MIDI keyboard indicator, which lights up when a keyboard is connected. |
Details: Transport and tempo, Change key, Loop a passage, Metronome.
2. Left panel: Library and Setup
The left panel has two tabs. Click the arrow at its edge to close it; when closed, its Library and Setup icons open it straight to that tab.
3. Piano roll
The big area in the middle. Notes fall towards the keyboard in time with the music, each track in its own colour. Scroll the mouse wheel over it to move backwards and forwards through the song. See The piano roll.
4. Chord bar and keyboard
Part | What it does |
Chord bar | Names the chord that’s playing. CHORDS on the left opens the Chords Explorer, SCALES on the right opens the Scales Explorer, and the prompter icon switches on the Chord Prompter when it’s enabled. See Live chord display. |
Keyboard | Keys light up as notes play. Click a key to hear it, or |
Control strip | Below the keys: the keyboard size (61, 73 or 88 keys), docked or floating keyboard, and the button for Presentation Mode. |
5. Tracks panel
The right panel lists every track in the song, where you mute, solo, hide and recolour them. See Tracks panel. Its narrow icon rail opens the editing tools:
Icon | Opens |
The Tracks panel itself, when it’s closed
MIDI Note Editor, once it’s turned on in Settings
Floating windows
The editors, the mixer, both explorers, Lock-A-Chord and File info open as floating windows over the main screen. They all behave the same way:
Tip
Want only the notes and the keys? Press F11 for Presentation Mode, a full-screen view without panels. Esc brings everything back.
